- What is your role at Celerity?
I manage ‘gaining and maintaining’ ISO accreditations for Celerity, contractor staff and personnel – along with the odd, irresistible ad-hoc project – making my role a varied one!
- What do you enjoy the most about your job?
Whilst enjoying the responsibility my day to day duties bring, it is a pleasure to watch the company grow and develop over time. I very much enjoy being a part of the jigsaw.
- What has been your biggest accomplishment at Celerity?
This may be dependent on definitions of ‘biggest’! The accomplishment I am most proud of is gaining the ISO9001 Quality standard for Celerity. This was the first ISO accreditation for the company and I was thrilled to be offered the challenge of achieving it. (ISO14001 ‘Environmental’ followed suit, with the company currently working toward gaining ISO27001 ‘Data Security’). For anyone who might be unaware, ISO standards are all about compliance and I am very proud to say that to date, Celerity has not had a single non-compliance noted. As for my most ‘lengthy’ of accomplishments, well … the experience was perhaps not quite as sweet as it sounds!!
- If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?
The choice is almost endless as there are so many things I would like to learn.
I would love to learn how to play the Violin – I think it’s a beautiful sound. I admire anyone who can pick up any ‘real’ instrument and produce a beautiful tune with it.
- What do you like to do in your spare time?
I find enjoyment in some of life’s simple things – socialising with friends, going to concerts, appreciating art, listening to music, eating out and watching sports. I am a nature-lover and adore getting out and about with my chap, visiting the Lakes and countryside, doing woodland walks etc. ‘Relaxing stuff’ – that said – my current spare time is mostly filled with wedding preparations and coping with the unexpected arrival of a joyful, 3 legged cat – (both of which are proving to be far from relaxing!!)
At the time of publication Karen Astle is now Karen Lightfoot. Congratulations Karen and Steven from all of us at Celerity
- Tell us something about yourself that work colleagues may not know
When I was (very) young, I signed up for bell-ringing at my local church – my hobby was short lived, as I didn’t weigh enough to keep me from being wrenched up toward the belfry! It was terrifying for me, no doubt highly amusing to those who had to pull me back down by my feet!
