Network Attached Storage (NAS)
Network Attached Storage enables your organisation to store, retrieve and protect business critical data, affordably and with reduced resource utilisation.
A NAS server is a high performance file server that plugs into a Local Area Network (LAN). NAS does not provide the same functionality as a general-purpose server, a NAS server is a specialised appliance optimised for file serving, i.e. storing, retrieving, and serving files in a multi-protocol environment.
For multiple-server environments running various operating platforms, data storage, management, backup and security can all be centralised onto a single NAS device. Standard servers continue to manage the data processing but the NAS server will bring the data to the end-user.
Network Attached Storage enables additional hard disk storage space to be added to a network already utilising servers, without the need to shut down for servicing or upgrade work.
