Storage Area Network (SAN)

A Storage Area Network is a specialised high-speed network, attaching servers and storage devices that allow “any-to-any” connection across the network using interconnect elements such as routers, gateways, switches and directors.

The SAN introduces the flexibility of networking to enable one server or many heterogeneous servers to share a common storage device (or devices), such as disk, tape or optical storage.

Additionally, the storage devices attached to the SAN can be physically located far away from the servers that they present storage to. It eliminates the restriction on the amount of storage that a server can access, previously limited by the number of disk bays or storage adapter PCI slots within a server.

Celerity has a number of SAN specialists who can help customers design, implement and support a SAN solution, resulting in a more efficient and cost effective data storage model.
